Day at El Morro!
Day at El Morro!
Friday Drop-In Pickleball @ Manzano Mesa.
Friday Drop-In Pickleball @ Manzano Mesa.
Please at least be versed in the basic rules, if you are a beginner that has never played. Meet at the champion court, by the bathrooms. Even though it's drop in when you can, the earlier our members can get there, the better we have a chance of claiming more courts that are close to each other. **A Different Format - Please Read:** What does "drop-in" mean? When you RSVP to the event, you ain't gotta be there right at the start. Stop by whenever and leave when you're ready. I will be there for at least the minimum time posted. Do RSVP so I have an idea of how many to expect, and it's good for the meetup group to track participation. **Play Format:** I need yall's help to keep play fair and fluid for all members. If there are members waiting to be rotated in, the 2 players that just lost in the current game rotate out to wait in line. The first 2 players waiting in line then rotate in, and the players that just won the game stay on court but split up. Holler at me if you need clarification. **What to Expect:** Casual pickleball for all levels; total beginners welcome. This venue is outdoors; if the weather turns, the event may be canceled. Please watch the event page and check your email for updates. We use public courts, and it’s not unusual to wait for court space to become available. **What to Bring:** * Paddle * Balls * Weather appropriate clothing * Hydration * Non-marking court shoes **Important:** If for any reason you are unable to attend, please update your RSVP. Thanks!

Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge w/ Rick @ 0845
Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge w/ Rick @ 0845
**Please note this is the usual Sunday.** Hi Everyone, time for the monthly visit to the Valle de Oro NWR! I have scheduled this every month on a Sunday morning. We will walk at an easy pace for about 4.0-4.5 miles total. We **do** go into the bosque and walk to the river, be aware that this portion is not a maintained trail. NOTE: If the entrance gate happens to be closed, just parallel park in the pull off where the informational signs are. **Great For first timers**. It's going to be very warm, so drink lots of water. **Please note start time of 0845.** This is a great choice for new hikers; there are broad roads to walk on allowing plenty of opportunity to visit with each other and admire nature. We will take a group picture somewhere along the way. Pets are allowed on refuge trails. Please keep all pets on a **6 foot non-retractable leash** and on designated trails at all times. See the Link below for current information from the refuge. [valle-de-oro](https://www.fws.gov/refuge/valle-de-oro) Be considerate of others who may be on a waitlist, as well as the event host by updating your RSVP if you decide not to attend, even at the last minute. As a reminder, ensure that you are are capable of walking this distance, bring sunscreen, hat, water and any other items you may desire. Walking poles are optional. If you are feeling ill, please do not attend.
Temazcal Healing Sweat Lodge
Temazcal Healing Sweat Lodge
The Temazcal Healing Sweat Lodge is a traditional “Four Door” ceremony. This is a purification ceremony with 4 rounds, followed with a community gathering The Temazcal takes us back into the womb of our Mother for cleansing and purification, this is a death and rebirth process. Our goal is to hold space where our community can join together to empower each other’s healing. The lodge will last as long or short as we need, but typically 1.5 to 2 hours. The responsibility for your health considerations is your own, so please ask whatever questions you need to ensure your safety. It is expected that you are forthcoming and open about any health considerations you may have. Please consider that you will be in darkness, intense heat, and around smoke/fire, to create an environment which challenges you to grow. This is a no pay to pray ceremony, however monetary love offerings are greatly appreciated. A few items I recommend bringing: Plenty of water 1-3 Towels Blanket (optional) Bathing suit or something comfortable to sweat and get dirty in Change of clothes Drum/ rattles (optional) Items you’d like for ceremony, totems/fetishes…etc (optional) Healthy Food item/snack to share \*\*Please note the end time is set for 4 pm, however, this ceremony can go longer or shorter than noted. Depending on how many attendees and how long each attendee prays for for each round will determine how long this ceremony runs for. Please plan accordingly and make this day a day for just ceremony.\*\* Please be aware that it may be chilly out during our ceremony so the blankets and towels will be helpful. Thank you all for walking this journey with me. A’ho Mitakuye Oasin! Wopila!

Ventana Arch / Sandstone Bluffs - El Malpais
Ventana Arch / Sandstone Bluffs - El Malpais
Last year I was asked about doing La Ventana Arch. It’s always been on the list. Today I was out exploring El Malpais and came across Sandstone Bluffs Trail. As I was looking into it more, I realized it’s only about 10 minutes from Ventana Arch. Sandstone Bluffs is 2.6 miles with wide open views across the desert and lava fields. Ventana Arch is a short walk but such an iconic spot. Since we’re trying to explore new areas this year and mix things up a bit, I thought why not pair them together? We’ll start with Sandstone Bluffs, then head over to La Ventana Arch and take in both in one trip. Two great spots, one drive, something new for us to experience together. See you on the trails. Kiva Lodge Ceremony
Kiva Lodge Ceremony
The Kiva Prayer Lodge is an evening ceremony in a circular underground earth kiva. In the center is a sacred fire. The structure of the ceremony is designed to provide participants a structure to perform their individual practices. It is open to all forms of communion with the divine realm provided it can be done within the kiva. All faiths and practices of divine communion are welcome. We gather for the lodge at 7:30 pm arriving a little early will allow us to start and end on time. The time of completion ranges from 11pm to midnight. We request all who participate to remain until completion. After the ceremony, a shared feast is done to complete the ceremony. Brings something that will not require additional cooking. We can keep things cool though and an insulated container could keep other things hot. A monetary love offering will help with the upgrade and upkeep of the Kiva but not mandatory, we are old school, no pay for pray here.
Contemplation Trail
Contemplation Trail
We’ll be hiking the Contemplation Trail in the Rio Grande Bosque. This easy 1.9-mile loop has just 9 feet of elevation gain and takes about 33 minutes to complete. The scenic bosque provides breathtaking views and plenty of shade. We’ll be parked at Sagebrush, on the furthest back side of the church so there’s plenty of parking available. Hiking boots and poles are not needed for this hike. Stay hydrated, and keep in mind it might be a little dark toward the end of the hike. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. See you on the trails! https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-mexico/contemplation-trail

Alcove House Trail (Bandelier)
Alcove House Trail (Bandelier)
For this hike, we will be heading to Bandelier National Monument. The hike itself is 2.6 miles and takes over an hour to complete. But we will spend more time there due to the amazing cliff dwellings we will have access to. There are also ladders to climb into the cavates. And unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on this trail. As usual please prepare by bringing plenty of water and snacks. This will be a carpool event. This will also be an event that starts at 8. I would like to be there by 10 to avoid most of the crowds. There is a fee per car, $25 per vehicle. I have an America the Beautiful Parks Pass, so please bring yours for free entrance into the park. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-mexico/alcove-house-trail?search=true
