Friday Drop-In Pickleball @ Manzano Mesa.
Friday Drop-In Pickleball @ Manzano Mesa.
Please at least be versed in the basic rules, if you are a beginner that has never played. Meet at the champion court, by the bathrooms. Even though it's drop in when you can, the earlier our members can get there, the better we have a chance of claiming more courts that are close to each other. **A Different Format - Please Read:** What does "drop-in" mean? When you RSVP to the event, you ain't gotta be there right at the start. Stop by whenever and leave when you're ready. I will be there for at least the minimum time posted. Do RSVP so I have an idea of how many to expect, and it's good for the meetup group to track participation. **Play Format:** I need yall's help to keep play fair and fluid for all members. If there are members waiting to be rotated in, the 2 players that just lost in the current game rotate out to wait in line. The first 2 players waiting in line then rotate in, and the players that just won the game stay on court but split up. Holler at me if you need clarification. **What to Expect:** Casual pickleball for all levels; total beginners welcome. This venue is outdoors; if the weather turns, the event may be canceled. Please watch the event page and check your email for updates. We use public courts, and it’s not unusual to wait for court space to become available. **What to Bring:** * Paddle * Balls * Weather appropriate clothing * Hydration * Non-marking court shoes **Important:** If for any reason you are unable to attend, please update your RSVP. Thanks!
Gung Fu Tea Experience 🍵
Gung Fu Tea Experience 🍵
Join us for Tea, in the style of a Chinese gung fu tea gathering Friday's at 5pm. Gongfu tea or kung fu tea (Chinese: 工夫茶 or 功夫茶; both gōngfū chá), literally "making tea with skill", is a traditional Chinese tea preparation method sometimes called a "tea ceremony". It is probably based on the tea preparation approaches originating in Fujian and the Chaoshan area of eastern Guangdong.

Afternoon Refresh: Modern Mocktails & Patio Social (20s-40s) 66 Acres The Vibe: Catch the late-afternoon sun on one of the best patios in the city. Sixty Six Acres is sleek, casual, and known for their incredible seasonal mocktails and house-made sodas. Come for the drinks, stay for the conversation. The first 3 people to arrive get to be our 'Icebreaker Leads' and choose the first topic of conversation to kick things off! Happy Hour The Plan: \* 3 PM: Meet on the patio. \* 3:15 PM: Order Drinks Introductions \* 5:30 PM: Event ends. Short, sweet, and zero stress. Note: If the patio is full, we'll be at the tables inside near the bar. Parking Dedicated free lot right in front! * **Pomegranate & Rosemary Spritz** : Described as a refreshing and perfect choice for warm days. * **Pomegranate Mojito (Virgin)** : Waitstaff have been noted for making custom versions of their signature cocktails without alcohol. * **Garden Spritz** : A mocktail option that is described as being on the sweeter side. The restaurant focuses heavily on local ingredients, so their seasonal "spritzer" or "house soda" options often rotate. You can always ask your server for a custom creation; bartenders there are frequently praised for their ability to whip up unique, non-alcoholic drinks based on your flavor preferences.

Women's Month Graphic Novels: Persepolis vs Tank Girl
Women's Month Graphic Novels: Persepolis vs Tank Girl
"take two, they're small!" - Tank Girl In celebration of Women's Month 2026 we dive deep into a pivotal Generation X format: the Graphic Novel! And in honor of another compromised institution, we may get all academicy and start discussing The Gaze, Who Gets To Represent, and even the Patriarchal Hierarchy Embedded In Language and Art. Plus SNaCks. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is a single graphic novel and easy to find: *Wise, funny, and heartbreaking, Persepolis is Marjane Satrapi’s memoir of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. In powerful black-and-white comic strip images, Satrapi tells the story of her life in Tehran from ages six to fourteen, years that saw the overthrow of the Shah’s regime, the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, and the devastating effects of war with Iraq. The intelligent and outspoken only child of committed Marxists and the great-granddaughter of one of Iran’s last emperors, Marjane bears witness to a childhood uniquely entwined with the history of her country.* *Persepolis paints an unforgettable portrait of daily life in Iran and of the bewildering contradictions between home life and public life. Marjane’s child’s-eye view of dethroned emperors, state-sanctioned whippings, and heroes of the revolution allows us to learn as she does the history of this fascinating country and of her own extraordinary family. Intensely personal, profoundly political, and wholly original, Persepolis is at once a story of growing up and a reminder of the human cost of war and political repression. It shows how we carry on, with laughter and tears, in the face of absurdity. And, finally, it introduces us to an irresistible little girl with whom we cannot help but fall in love.* There's also a lovely animated feature length film version of Persepolis: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRTzV9m5YP0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRTzV9m5YP0) *** The Tank girl series has many issues (...). Pick up a collection or read whatever TG issues you can find. Many are available on archive.org. Have some fun and get a sense of character, attitude and approach. I will bring a copy of "Tank Girl The Collection" (Dark Horse Comics 1993) to share in color. *By the nature of its mere existence, a Tank Girl comic book defies definition or explanation. The book operates as its heroine operates – moving ahead at full-speed through a post-apocalyptic world with the attention span of a 4-year old. A few of these segments are 1-page spreads of chaotic art with free-form poetry, while others are longer form bits that can end in punchlines or violence (and you can never tell which of those you will get).* *Though Tank Girl is tailor made for those who appreciate counter-culture or who actively tread off the beaten path in art and media, there is a surprising amount of infantile toilet humor pervading through these vignettes. The word “fart” is present almost as much as that other F-word. Perhaps that, in itself, is counter-culture. Perhaps it serves to keep the political or societal statements light. Perhaps it’s just annoying. Whatever it is, you know that’s what you’re signing up for when you pick up a Tank Girl comic book.* It's also worth looking at the 1995 Tank Girl film adaptation: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP4o_Cf7ubM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP4o_Cf7ubM) ...or it's trailers, at least long enough to compare your impressions of the main character and humor between comic origin and this feature film interpretation. We are a media-positive book group. Prepare yourself for lively, non-disrespectful discussion - and BYO snacks / beverages!

Yjastros: Out of Many, One (Flamenco)
Yjastros: Out of Many, One (Flamenco)
"The National Institute of Flamenco presents Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company in *Out of Many, One*. The performance showcases five original flamenco works, each representing a distinct process of individuals connecting to a whole: Convergence, Momentum, Inheritance, Embodiment, Reconciliation. In *Elementos,* choreographed by Adrián Santana, earth, air, fire, and water converge as interdependent elements. In Sara Cano’s *Camina,* momentum unifies energy into forward motion. Inheritance links the individual to culture and tradition in invited guest artist Ricardo Moro’s *Marianas*. Embodiment integrates memory, emotion, and identity in an untitled solo work by invited guest artist Adrián Santana (Málaga, Spain), and in Ana Morales' *Taranterias*, reconciliation bridges opposing forces. *Out of Many, One* celebrates unique voices, bodies, and perspectives, bringing them together into a single, resonant experience." Come out and join me for this night of song, music and dance. Yjastros is magical! I'm in my favorite roomy seat in the balcony. \*\*DD120 (\*\*Senior tix is $27) Please note: I don't know the length of the performance time so I'm not sure if it will be over 2 hours. https://my.nmculture.org/43419/53872?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Yjastros
