On the birthday of our Basic Law, everyone in Germany is invited to celebrate social interaction – with a day for getting involved across Germany. Be there!

Whether litter collection campaigns, street parties or games evenings at retirement homes, meeting people and engaging in joint activities are centre-stage on Ehrentag.

On 23 May, we are celebrating the anniversary of our Basic Law, the foundation of our democracy. And this democracy depends on people who get involved, who take responsibility and who help to shape our society.

I have launched Ehrentag together with the German Foundation for Civic Engagement and Volunteer Work. “For you. For us. For everyone.” With this in mind, we want to roll up our sleeves on this day and together show how diverse commitment in our country is.

Hundreds of cities, towns and municipalities are already on board, and more are signing up every day. Many associations, companies and initiatives have also signalled their support. But each and every one can take part! From helping neighbours to littler collection in the nearby forest to a choir performance at a retirement home – each activity, no matter how small, reflects the very beauty of this idea.

I would very much like to invite you to enter your ideas and projects in the Engagement Finder here on the website. I will peruse it on a regular basis and will also visit initiatives registered here myself.

We can make a huge difference when we act together. Above all, Ehrentag on 23 May should be fun. Let’s get together across Germany to roll up our sleeves in our neighbourhoods. Let’s work together to make our country a little bit better.
