Music Facts: Country

• Country music has roots in Black music and originated in the Southern and Southwestern United States in the 1920s.  

• Country legends include Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Charley Pride. 

• At the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards in 2021, Mickey Guyton became the first Black woman to be nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Country Solo Performance. 

• Starting in 2025, the Best Country Album category was separated into two categories: Best Contemporary Country Album and Best Traditional Country Album
